Governor’s Budget Makes Legislative Debut. The language hasn’t been introduced yet, but staff from the Minnesota Department of Education appeared before the House Education Finance Committee and provided a description of the Governor’s budget recommendations. We’re still at the 30,000 foot level, but here is a document that provides the flight pattern: One Minnesota Budget
There’s obviously a long ways to go and we haven’t seen the policy language or the formula language that will accompany the Governor’s budget recommendations when they are formally introduced in bill form. Watching the bill introductions, there are a number of bills that don’t appear to be part of the Governor’s budget and there will obviously be give-and-take as legislative and administrative priorities clash to some extent. I was schooled with the mantra of “You can only spend a dollar once” and even with the budget situation being as robust as it is, there will be tough decisions ahead.
